Guy Fieri's Bad Review in New York Times Makes Me Want to Go There Even More

"When you hung that sign by the entrance that says, WELCOME TO FLAVOR TOWN!, were you just messing with our heads?"

"Did you notice that the menu was an unreliable predictor of what actually came to the table? Were the “bourbon butter crunch chips” missing from your Almond Joy cocktail, too? Was your deep-fried “boulder” of ice cream the size of a standard scoop?"

That's an excerpt of the NY Times review of Guy Fieri's new restaurant in New York City's Time Square. While I'm not a critic, nor do I aspire to be one anytime soon, one must call to attention how harsh the article was. Now if and when I open up my own location, I'm sure to be judged hard and without slack, but to read something so stern and on point about basic elements of Guy's restaurant was stunning.

I'll admit, I'm a huge fan of Guy's show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I often catch myself watching hours of old re-runs in a row, studying simple recipe ideas that some down-home places around the country are perfecting.

I even dreamed up a restaurant concept over a  year ago and messaged Food Network about having a restaurant that took all of the "signature" dishes from the show and offering them at a restaurant, rotating as the show aired and people voted the dish on or off the menu.

Now I'm sure there's no personal dispute between Guy and the NY Times critic and writer, but that scrutiny was both a blessing and unsettling. 

Because if someone like Guy can open up a spot in the Big Apple and still come up with a lack-luster product while he tools around the country in his '67 Chevy, it proves that this industry takes constant attention, high standards, and a great staff to execute. 

From the article, "By the way, would you let our server know that when we asked for chai, he brought us a cup of hot water?"

Either way, next time I'm in New York, you are damn sure I'll be checking out Guy's place. I mean a review so bad of a Food Star's restaurant, is a must see, taste for yourself event.



RESTAURANT AIDING HUSTLING STREET PARKING SPOTS?


In the era of this modern day depression, it seems like everyone's trying to make a buck anyway they can.

The article above showcases a homeless guy standing outside a restaurant with orange cones charging money for street parking spots. $40 to park. 

My question: How can you run a business and let someone do that? It's one thing for the person to get set up, but it's another to just stand by and watch the guy collect money from people that may be planning on coming into your establishment.

The greatest part of the story is that the restaurant claims to have tried to stopped the guy and even called police to have the man removed. Fair enough. Good call. But then to find out that the restaurant is actually storing the cones for the guy? Come on that's just silly.

This is a restaurant: DON'T. Just silly.

I just want to say thank you to all veterans and this lady for your service to this country. We can live watching CNN and relate to them only as movies. We are sheltered and blessed by our military's strength to keep us far and away for harm's way.

HAPPY BELATED VETERAN'S DAY!




I also commend you for leaving out the owner's name and the restaurant's name. You told your story, not in vain, but to inform. Cheers to you.
